One of the cleanest sites you'll go to Great Gravel Road up to Blue Ridge Parkway that that's within a couple of miles of the road up to Mount Mitchell.

One of my favorite places. I've been going here since I was a kid. There are pay sites and then primitive sites that are free.

The sites were great. Lined in pea gravel for a smooth surface, complete with fire ring and lantern post.

Overall the campground was pleasant. There is a trout stream that follows the road where most camp sites are located, even primitive tent sites. The roar of the moving water is all you hear. Of course it was cold which drove away all but two campers. In the morning before daylight we were awakened by the hunters traveling the road.

Loved this campground. The location is great. The creek is wonderful, and the campground host, Beth is awesome. She took good care of us and answered all of our questions. She was a pleasure to speak with. Nearby are beautiful hiking trails, the Blue Ridge Parkway, waterfalls and if you need civilization, the towns of Old Fort and Black Mountain are short drives away. We highly recommend this campground.

Very nice and well maintained campsite. It is located right off the side of a backcountry road. The creek running through is pretty and has a decent amount of water flowing through it. The sound of the creek makes sleeping easy. Some of the campsites have much better locations, the nonreserve sites seem to be the best. What we did was reserve a spot, one that allows reserving, and planned on moving to one of the nicer nonreserve sites if they were open. This is a popular place to camp, looks like all reserve sites are booked on weekends a fews weeks ahead of time. Plenty of nice trails to hike in immediate vicinity, some are challenging. Vault toilets are fairly clean for what they are, don't expect them to smell like roses. Make sure you check amount of toilet paper, of out you can ask the camp host.
